Nika teams up with an old friend to search for hidden treasure in the Matrix.
Nika’s old hacker buddy Fab drops by Cosmos – he wants her help in finding some secret stash of bullion located in the Matrix.
Their online escapades get attention of the GSS (Government Special Services), as well as some scummy CEO guy named Rossi.
Jake tries to reach Nika with the help of his usual hackers for hire, Cowgirl and Wildside, but are interrupted by a super hacker (a “Wirehead”) hired by Rossi.
The GSS officer, Shelley Grout (whom we’ve seen a couple times before, by the way) tells Jake that the secret bullion is really secret nerve gas. Rossi ends up finding it, opens the suitcase, and is killed by the gas.
Nika gets her one and only feature episode in the series, and she’s fun as always. Her old buddy Fab, not so much; he’s annoying, constantly inserting tech words and lingo in conversation (“Long time no scan”). No wonder she parted ways with him.
The cyberspace element of TekWar is, without a doubt, its weakest part. So making an episode where cyberspace plays an integral role, with hacking scenes taking up loads of screentime, probably wasn’t the best idea.
It felt like there were just too many scenes of someone sitting in a chair looking at ’90s CGI and waving their hands, while a person next to them keeps saying, “Get the thing, get the thing! Oh no, watch out for that other thing!” Not exactly riveting television.
