Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Episode 30: The Rockstar

July 30, 2017 Leave a Comment

While hanging out on the beach, Jason and his cousin Jeremy find a mirror that makes people explode.

Episode Summary

The episode begins with the Rangers preparing to go on a trip in the Rad Bug. I totally forgot that thing existed. Trini feeds the group some brownies she made in class, but they spit them out as soon as she tells them there’s snail inside (it’s a French recipe).

Anyway, the Rangers go on their trip except for Jason, who would prefer to spend time at the beach with his cousin Jeremy, who almost looks like Jonathan Brandis. Jeremy finds a map in a bottle that leads to a magic mirror that makes people explode.

Rockstar and the Mirror

Rita wants this mirror, so she sends a rock monster, Rockstar, and Scorpina to fetch it. Jeremy finds the mirror and shines it on Rockstar, destroying him, but loses the mirror to Scorpina.

The other Rangers show up, Rita makes Scorpina into a giant, and the Megazord destroys the mirror with the Power Sword.

Thoughts

A typical episode where practically nothing noteworthy or amazing happens; another day, another monster. At least this time, we got to see some nice beach scenery, and Scorpina got a bit more screentime than usual. But the fight between her and Jason is badly edited together: she’s obviously somewhere else that’s unbeachy, with a lot of trees and a train tunnel.

As with all the other child actors we’ve seen in the show, Jeremy’s voice has been dubbed over – this time by Brianne Brozey, who also voiced Willy in the Eye Guy episode.

Shout-out to Bulk, who constantly challenges the other Rangers to fights despite losing each and every one. At least this time he got to enjoy several slices of pizza before Jason kicked his ass.

We have now reached the midpoint of season 1 and it’s only taken me, what, 4 years to get here? Good grief.
