Jason and Tommy must learn how to work together and search for a new weapon to use against Rita’s Super Putties.

Jason and Tommy can’t work together
Episode Summary
Tommy and Jason attempt to train for a ninja tournament but fail because they don’t work together. Trini tells them they should gung-ho: “It’s Chinese for ‘working together.'”

On the Moon, Rita has Finster make a batch of Super Putties out of the clay her minions collected last episode. The invincible Super Putties fight the Rangers in Angel Grove park and kick all their asses.

Frankenstein lives again thanks to recycled footage from last episode!
The Rangers teleport to the Command Center to whine to Zordon about these new Putties. Zordon sends Tommy and Jason off on a quest to find new weapons (and learn how to work together better).

The Quest Begins
Tommy and Jason find the weapons in a little shrine atop a hill, but they’re guarded by a giant fireball spewing robot brontosaurus named Titanus. The two Rangers morph and Tommy loans his shield to Jason in the spirit of teamwork.

Jason grabs the weapons (which inexplicably say “Zyuranger” on them), and distributes them to the other Rangers. The weapons make quick work of the Super Putties. Invincible? Yeah, right.

In the final scene, we see Tommy and Jason’s ninja tournament, as they face off against two actual ninjas hired by Bulk and Skull. Tommy and Jason obviously win and Skull accidentally spills a bucket of water all over Bulk.

Jason and Tommy win!
Thoughts
Didn’t we already have an episode about teamwork? It was called Teamwork. But now that we have a new Ranger, I suppose old themes are allowed to be recycled.

That said, Jason and Tommy’s conflict was resolved too quickly, considering it was built up in the episode’s first scene. I also thought Zordon splitting the map to the new weapons in half (so Jason had one side and Tommy had the other) was going to be important…but it wasn’t.
