Rita sends a Frankenstein monster to crash the Youth Center’s Halloween party because she’s evil.

Putting up decorations for the party
Episode Summary
The Ranger gang celebrates Halloween with yet another party at the Youth Center. Meanwhile, Rita has Finster make “Super Putties” with special red clay found in a cave; she sends a Frankenstein monster to crash the Rangers’ party and keep them distracted.

Everyone in costume
Because Tommy is still working on his costume and running a bit late, everyone at the party assumes Frankenstein is him. Everyone except Billy, who’s appropriately dressed as Sherlock Holmes to solve this mistaken identity mystery. Frankenstein leaves the Youth Center and Billy follows him to the cave with the red clay. They have a short fight, then Billy runs back to get the other Rangers.

The monster is Frankenstein’s monster
Everyone morphs and we move to the Megazord fight, which progresses exactly like the one from a couple episodes ago: Megazord loses, then Dragonzord shows up. Megazord and Dragonzord lose, then they fuse into the Dragon Megazord and win.

Megazord fight
The Ranges head back to the party as it winds down. Alpha wins the costume contest, and – oh crap Frankenstein’s back!

Alpha is mega popular with the ladies
Oh, no, it’s Tommy in his costume. Har har.

Thoughts
The Halloween theme makes this episode more tolerable than usual. Emphasis on the “tolerable.” It will still take some time before Power Rangers gets good. It’s interesting to note that the original Japanese episode (oddly) wasn’t Halloween-themed despite having the Frankenstein monster. So, one point in Power Rangers‘ favor for making up for that oversight.

Halloween episodes are always fun
I should also point out that the scene of Billy inside the cave was edited rather seamlessly with the Zyuranger footage of the Blue Ranger in the cave. Good job editors.

Sherlock Billy is on the case!
Remember Angela, Zack’s would-be love interest introduced many episodes ago? She’s back! And she’s still not interested in him.

Angela is not impressed
Bulk and Skull’s humor is slightly growing on me. There’s a fun scene early in the episode of the comic duo trying on various Halloween costumes, like Elvis and a horse, before deciding on being punks (themselves) to the party. What really stands out about this scene is the location: Bulk’s room. This place is amazing and I wish this episode was remastered in HD so I could pore over every detail.

The best scene
Just look at that giant hot dog mounted on the wall!
