Baboo spikes Kimberly and Billy’s water, turning them into ill-behaved punks. The only cure to their condition is a squash from another dimension.

Episode Summary
The Rangers play volleyball in the park: Billy and Zack against Jason and Trini. Billy stumbles on the sand and hits the ball in the wrong direction. Kimberly walks by with drinks, dreadfully sarcastic: “Wow, Billy. You’re getting really good.”
Elsewhere, Baboo finally does something interesting – chemistry! He mixes snail slime, spider legs, poison ivy, and rattlesnake lips. As you all know, these are the ingredients for “punk potion.” He heads to the park on a penny farthing as Putties attack the Rangers and pours punk potion in all the drinks Kimberly brought.
This Putty fight was strangely directed, by the way. It used a lot of quick cuts to different angles, slow motion, and repeated shots. Was the director trying to do something experimental?
No, don’t drink that!
Punky Two-ster
Once the battle is over, an exhausted Kimberly and Billy drink the tainted drinks! The potion instantly takes effect and they become angry and mean. Trini suggests another game of volleyball. “No! Volleyball is for dorks,” says Kimberly. Billy echoes, “Yeah, and you guys are dorks!” Trini thinks they’ve had too much sun.
Billy and Kimberly show up at school the next day wearing punk outfits – an improvement on their usual looks, actually. Bulk and Skull watch them harass a nerd for lunch money, which piques their interest. Kimberly flirts with Skull, “What do you say me and you go out Saturday night and tear up the town?” Bulk gets jealous and suspects a trick, but Billy yells at him to stop asking stupid questions.
Billy and Kimberly are punk’d!
The Cure
Trini and the others are unhappy at what they see, “Billy and Kimberly have gone punk. What will we do?” says Alpha. “Don’t worry, Alpha. It’s just a phase. They’ll grow out of it,” is what Zordon DOESN’T say. Instead, he tells Alpha to teleport the Rangers to the Command Center and to encase Billy and Kimberly in a force field.
Kimberly and Billy are none too happy and threaten to kick everyone’s “buns.” Zordon reveals that Baboo spiked Billy and Kimberly’s drinks with a potion. The only cure is a potion made from the sap of a Singing Squash, a rare root found in dimensional gaps.
The alert siren goes off – Rita’s newest monster, Terror Toad, is out and about. Jason, Zack, and Trini morph and fight him with their Power Weapons. Toad grabs Trini with his tongue and swallows her; the Yellow Ranger helmet appears on his stomach. Jason and Zack shoot their blade blasters, but they don’t work. Blade blasters never work!
Terror Toad attacks!
Zordon finds the dimensional gap containing the squash and sends Alpha to go and get it. Putties appear, but he activates his internal defenses and zaps them. Way more effective than a long fight scene. He picks the squash and returns to the Command Center.
Terror Toad swallows Zack next. “You Power rangers are very tasty.”
Alpha mixes drinks with the squash sap and serves it to Billy and Kimberly. They return to normal, and Zordon tells them about Terror Toad’s weak spot. Shouldn’t he have mentioned this much earlier?!
Kimberly and Billy morph and join Jason on the battlefield. Terror Toad eats Jason and Billy, but Kimberly is able to fire an arrow with her Power Bow straight at the monster’s weak spot on its neck. Terror Toad is destroyed, and the devoured Rangers are returned.
At the Juice Bar, Bulk and a finely dressed Skull show up. “I thought we had a date,” Skull says to Kimberly. “Kimberly and Trini don’t date neanderthals,” chimes Billy. Wow, that’s pretty mean.
Alpha is surprisingly useful in this episode
Thoughts
Billy and Kimberly’s punk personalities were pretty funny and over the top at the beginning, but slowly wore out their welcome. That said, if they were toned down just a little bit, I would have wanted them to stay punks.
In both this episode and the last one, Alpha seems to be becoming more useful and active by leaving the Command Center to help the Rangers. Good for him. He’s actually improved a bit since the first few episodes. But how long will that last? I’m sure he’ll revert back to being annoying, anytime now.
Terror Toad wasn’t particularly interesting and was too similar to Pudgy Pig.
