The Science Ninja Team travels to the Moon to stop Galactor’s scorpion mech from throwing rocks at the Earth.

Galactor’s scorpion mech on the Moon
Episode Summary
Galactor launches several rockets into space that transform into a giant scorpion mech. It lands on the Moon and starts shooting moon rocks straight at Earth, demolishing a city upon impact.

A city is destroyed
Ken and the rest of the team suit up and launch in the God Phoenix, which goes into space for the first and only time in the series!

The God Phoenix chases after the scorpion mech
The God Phoenix fires Bird Missiles at the scorpion but they have no effect; the scorpion rolls into a ball, plummets back to Earth, and causes a colossal explosion on the surface.

The Galactor commander looks like a clown with a plunger on his head
New Orders
Nambu gives the team new orders: leave the scorpion to the security forces and find/destroy the Galactor base that’s controlling the scorpion.

Red Impulse lends a hand
Ken quickly locates the base by tracing radio signals the God Phoenix intercepted while in space.

The Galactor base
Ken and the others – sans Ryu – sneak into the base, beat up a bunch of guards, and destroy computer equipment – the scorpion is neutralized.

Thoughts
This episode was above average. Galactor came across as threatening this time around and actually succeeded in destroying a couple cities; the fact that the God Phoenix had to go into space made for a more epic than usual scenario. Footage of God Phoenix breaking the atmosphere was used in many Battle of the Planets episodes.

Ken withstands the g-forces
Red Impulse reappears for the first time since episode 5 but doesn’t get any lines. We’ll see more of him in the next couple episodes.

You know something big’s going down when these three are looking at you like that
The ending felt a bit rushed, and there’s a weird moment where the God Phoenix gets stuck in a mid-ocean ridge formation in one scene, then is fine in the next with no explanation. Katse and Leader X also have a really generic in the opening that feels like a waste of screentime.
