Dragon Ball Super Episode 4: Bid for the Dragon Balls! Pilaf and Crew’s Impossible Mission!

August 28, 2017 Leave a Comment

Everyone parties it up

Episode Summary

Bulma’s birthday party continues on the cruise ship. Trunks takes Goten to an enormous room filled with prizes for a bingo tournament: 3rd place prize is a plane, 2nd place is a castle, and 1st is the seven Dragon Balls!

On a nearby island, a destitute Pilaf, Shu, and Mai (now children) pick up the Dragon Balls on their Dragon Radar. They see Bulma’s cruise ship in the distance and hitch a ride with help from an unwitting Trunks and Goten.

In the final scene, Beerus and Whis appear on King Kai’s planet.

Thoughts

Most of this episode is dedicated to reintroducing Pilaf, Shu, and Mai, who – excepting their minor appearance in Dragon Ball GT – haven’t been seen since the end of the original Dragon Ball series! I remember the Battle of Gods film had an explanation for why they’re now children (a wish to Shenron gone awry), which was absent in Super. But I’m sure the writers are saving this explanation for a big reveal further down the road. Nevertheless, I really like them and think they’re great fun.

Lots of thick outlining going on this episode

The other stuff that happens in this episode are inconsequential: training scenes and King Kai telling Goku about Beerus. We already saw the two Kais explain Beerus and the Gods of Destruction last episode, so really, just skip the non-Pilaf scenes if you can.
