15 Patterns in Neil Breen Films

May 29, 2016 2 Comments

Visionary filmmaker Neil Breen is infamous for making self-produced independent films in the “so bad they’re good” category that have quickly garnered a cult following. Loaded with unclear symbolism, inhuman dialogue, and surreal imagery, these films are fascinating to watch and akin to fever dreams.

However, after watching each film consecutively, one notices certain patterns and similarities in some or all these works, in either the narrative or directing style. What do these similarities say about Breen and his creative muse? That’s up to you to determine on your own.

Note that for his latest film, Pass Thru, all I have to go on is the trailer as it hasn’t been released yet.
